Week 227: Comedy from HfHR, Rohingya Redux, Hypermasculine Hindu Beasts
04/21/2024 - Modern Hindu Content
Welcome to Eternal Path! This week we feature: A “Hindu” group protesting a bill affirming the Hindu community’s concerns, attacks on Hindus in Myanmar, a new NYT hitpiece on Hindus, and an aesthetic!
Comedy Highlight: Hindus for Human Rights
House Resolution 1131 is a bill introduced in the 118th Congress of the United States by Representative Shri Thanedar (MI-13) with the title “H.Res.1131 - Celebrating Hindu Americans, and condemning attacks on Hindu places of worship, Hinduphobia, and anti-Hindu bigotry, and for other purposes”
The full bill is available here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-resolution/1131 and comes on the heels of numerous temple attacks and attacks on Hindu Americans, often by sympathizers of the Khalistan movement. Our favorite comedy organization, the so-called “Hindus for Human Rights” (HfHR/H4HR), released this in response. Comedian Pranav Behari of the Mango Bae podcast roasted them in response.
Another commenter so helpfully pointed out which “Hindus” that HfHR represented below:
Hinduphobia Highlight: Rohingya Redux
The protracted battles between the Government of Myanmar and the “Rohingya” Muslim minority have been raging since Myanmar gained independence from Britain in the 1940s, largely in Arakan province. Caught in the middle are the Bengali Hindus of Arakan province, sometimes called “Rohingya Hindus”, who have been victimized time and time again by the Rohingya Muslims. Currently, Islamic terror groups are holding over 1600 Hindus and 120 Buddhists hostage as an attempted bargaining chip against the Myanmar government. Observers fear that this may end in a similar massacre to the 2017 Kha Maung Seik Massacre, where 99 Bengali Hindu villagers were massacred by Rohingya Muslim terrorist groups, with an additional 500 Hindus forced to flee to Bangladesh. Additionally Hindu women were captured and kidnapped and force-fed meat.
You know the situation is bad when the Islamist hellhole of Bangladesh is paradise in comparison to Arakan. Meanwhile tons of Rohingya live in India, amassing refugee benefits while the compatriots massacre Hindus in Myanmar. We have covered Rohingya issues tangentially in Week 31 and Week 218.

Humor Highlight: Hypermasculine Hindu Beasts
No one with a functioning brain expects the New York Times to properly cover India or Hinduism, but they never cease to come up with new gems. “Hypermasculine Hindu Beasts” is the newest one, used for a description of lion statues in some new government building, and contrasted with the previous “serene Buddhist” lions. Given the historical record of Buddhist areas of the subcontinent (Kashmir, East Bengal, Pakistan, Afghanistan) against the Islamic onslaught (the Buddhist areas in 600CE are generally the Muslim areas today), perhaps the Hypermasculine Hindu Beasts portend a better future.
