History Highlight: Greek Gods in India and The Greek Lord Shiva
Readers of ours know that one of our key historical areas of interest is Indo-Greek interactions in the ancient age, with Issues 20, 42, 51, 71, and 140 covering some aspects of this exchange. Shailesh Bharadwaj recently posted a tweet showing sealings of Greek Gods from various locations in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, with a couple examples pasted below. He mentioned it would be of interest to Pagan and Greek religion researchers.
In response, Pagan religions researcher Curwen Ares Rolinson linked to an essay he had written on the Greek Rudra, titled “Of Rudra Bhava & Χαος Amidst The Indo-Greeks“ discussing a Greek-style image of a deity, with a third eye (reminiscent of Lord Shiva) that Rolinson and his cited authors link to Rudra, the Vedic form of Lord Shiva.
