The Pakistani newspaper DAWN has a poignant story on the history of Hindu life in Laki, Sindh. Laki was a pilgrimage site on the way to the shakti peetha Hinglaj Mata in Balochistan, and a center for Shaivism.
Appraising Hindu and Indian history comprehensively shatters many myths. One such myth is that “Sikhs saved Hindus from dying out.” While Hindus and Sikhs have coexisted for centuries, and have links through shared religious sites, intermarriage, and collaboration against various Islamic invaders, Hindus, even during the darkest times of the Mughal Empire were at the vanguard of defeating oppressive Islamic rulers. Pragyata has a great piece carefully and comprehensively debunking the aforementioned myth here.
People discussing history often wonder why there is more religious conflict during a time when a higher percentage of humans are educated and literate than at any other point in recorded history. Razib Khan has a great essay on his blog Gene Expression, titled “How Technology Drives Religious “Fundamentalism” which theorizes that the printing press has a large hand in the situation.
